OZON is a cross-border e-commerce platform in Russia that actively provides services to all countries in the former Soviet Union. Haswill Electronics joined the platform at the end of July 2024, but today, it has to withdraw from it.
Our products are reliable and slightly more expensive. If we advertise on OZON, the price will be higher. That will be beyond the acceptable range of most buyers, so we have not done paid advertising.
Let’s take a look at what happened in the past 265 days. We got 126,832 impressions, 3,175 people saw our page, 470 added to the shopping cart, more than 70 people paid, and the actual transaction amount was less than $1,000, with an average transaction amount of less than $4 per day.
Therefore, we plan to give up this platform temporarily and complain about OZON
1. Disrespect for intellectual property rights! Even if the seller bans follow-up selling, there are still other sellers who copy our content, and OZON turns a blind eye to it. As sellers, we understand that others can sell similar products, but they should use their own photos instead of copying and pasting our pictures and videos. This is the original sin of the OZON platform! compalins to Ozon is useless.
2. Poor customer service system. You can rarely find manual customer service. The text translation of the so-called intelligent customer service is very bad, and you can’t find the right solution quickly.
3. The manual customer service is very ignorant. They casually agree with the buyer’s bad reviews and dare to judge without any knowledge of the product. This is absurd and irresponsible.
4. Poor logistics experience. Logistics information is often not effectively updated. Many sellers think that it is the responsibility of Chinese logistics companies such as RET and UNI. In fact, this is OZON’s own problem. When the goods arrive at the Moscow warehouse, the logistics information has been updated normally. Once out of the Moscow warehouse, you often cannot query valid information.
5. Expensive commissions. The commission deduction points of the platform and logistics are close to 20%. Obviously, OZON makes money from this, which is higher than eBay, Amazon, etc.
6. Endless malicious promotions. There are 2-3 such activities every month. They automatically reduce your price by more than ten percent. Alas! Shameless!
7. Stupid and ridiculous product merging function. Forgive our ignorance. This is the first time we have seen such a function. It really broadened our horizons. Unfortunately, they did not do this function well and it is difficult to use!
So what kind of products do we think OZON is suitable for?
First, the gross profit of the product should account for more than 60% of the selling price. Sorry, buyers are not fools.
Second, there are no or few competing products. Sorry, the blue ocean is very small.
Third, the shipment volume should be large, suitable for personal use or home use. This usually means low profits.
In short, high commissions, poor customer service, and mediocre logistics experience will eventually lead to OZON’s decline if they are not improved.
The current positive signals are based on burning money, and also because OZON, as a Russian cross-border e-commerce company, was the first to conduct large-scale investment promotion in China, and took the lead. However, if OZON does not optimize and only focuses on opening up new markets, then this is like a bubble that will burst sooner or later!
